Separating Mixture Information to Study for the Test
We have examined a variety of different methods for separating mechanical mixtures and solutions.
For the upcoming test, you are expected to understand each method and which PROPERTIES of the individual substances in a mixture make it possible to separate them.
For example, a filter works to separate gravel from water because the particle size of gravel is to large to pass through the filter while the water passes through easily.
Review each of the methods listed below. Some methods are not listed in your textbook, however, these can be found in your package.
Separating Solutions
1. Chromatography
2. Distillation
3. Evaporation
Separating Mechanical Mixtures
1. Filtration
2. Magnetism
3. Sifting
4. Sorting
5. Settling
6. Flotation
7. Separating Funnel
